Somatic Experiencing
Healing Begins Within

What is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic Experiencing is a trauma therapy that focuses on the mind-body connection. It helps release the stress and tension stored in your body after difficult experiences, allowing you to move beyond survival mode and into a life of greater ease and balance.
How Somatic Experiencing Works
Trauma can leave the nervous system stuck in survival mode—fight, flight, or freeze. This unresolved activation can lead to chronic stress, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and physical symptoms. SE aims to restore balance to the nervous system by gently guiding you through the process of releasing stored tension and trauma.
2. Building Awareness of Sensations
Tune into your body’s physical sensations, such as tightness, warmth, tingling, or trembling. These sensations are often clues to how your body is holding onto past experiences. By paying attention to these sensations in a safe and supportive environment, you can begin to process and release them.
3. Gradual “Titration” of Experiences
One of the key principles of SE is titration—working with small amounts of trauma or stress at a time, rather than diving into overwhelming emotions all at once. This gentle, step-by-step approach helps you avoid re-traumatization and build a sense of safety and resilience as you process your experiences.
4. Releasing the Body’s Survival Energy
Trauma often results in trapped survival energy in the body. SE uses techniques like guided movement, grounding exercises, and mindful awareness to help you safely discharge this energy. For example, a client might experience a small tremor or spontaneous movement during a session, which signals the body releasing pent-up tension.
5. Integrating and Moving Forward
As you process and release stored trauma, SE helps you develop new patterns of emotional and physical regulation. Over time, you feel more grounded, present, and capable of navigating stress and emotions with greater ease.
